by C. C. Hunter
Synopsis (from Goodreads): Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.
Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.
Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…
My Review:
As soon as I heard the synopsis for this book I knew that I had to read it and I am so glad that I finally picked it up! I read it in two days, but it probably would have only taken one had I not been taking a summer college course that went from 7:30am to 2:50 pm. Anyways… This book was a stunningly beautiful debut from C. C. Hunter that kept me turning the pages long past when I should have been sleeping. It starts out with a glimpse of Kylie Galen’s miserable home and love life and we learn that her parents are getting a divorce, her Nana recently died, and her boyfriend broke up with her because she wouldn’t “give out.” She also has an eerie stalker and night terrors that cause her to wake up screaming. When she finds herself trying to relax at a party that gets broken up by the cops her mom decides to send her away to a summer camp called Shadow Falls for troubled teens. Kylie soon finds out that this isn’t your average camp, but one for supernaturals that need help fitting in with humans. She doesn’t think she belongs there and to make matters worse the camp leaders don’t even know what she is, just that she isn’t human. She soon makes friends (as well as catches the eye of two sexy guys) and starts to feel like she belongs when she finds out the camp is in danger of closing due to recent killings at a nearby Wildlife park being blamed on kids at the camp. With her friends by her side she strides to find an answer for everything and in the meantime might just get herself killed. I found this book to be a refreshing change from all the books that focus on just one or two paranormal entities. I plan on picking up the next book and devouring it as soon as it hits my hands!
